Immunomediated Diseases and Innovative Therapies

< Back

Overview

The Immunomediated Diseases and Innovative Therapies is an heterogeneous area composed by both translational and clinical research groups which cover fields such as immunology, respiratory and systemic diseases, pharmacology, molecular diagnosis, heart repair, reumatology and advanced therapies. Its main strength derives precisely from this heterogeneity and the complementarity of the scientific interests and expertise of the different groups, many of which are currently joining efforts and synergizing in a variety of collaborative research projects.

During 2018 the scientific production improved and the alliances the groups of “Infection in immunocompromised pediatric patients” and “Genetics Medicine” got closer as high throughput technique applied to diagnosis and research requires to join the expertise of these three groups.

The line on primary immunodeficiencies was strengthen by the assignment by ISCIII of a major project to Dr. Martinez-Gallo. The project aims at improving the diagnosis of the Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis. This is in addition to the project already in development by Dr Roger Colobran on the same disease and also sponsored by ISCIII.

The line on Immunotolerance and Autoimmune disease carried on its focus on thyroid autoimmunity and more precisely in Graves’ disease. This line is developed in collaboration with surgery, histopathology, endocrinology, pediatrics and clinical chemistry. During 2018 we generated the results that lead to two main research articles being reviewed in 2019.
